Ordering Evaporative Cooling Media

Updated: Sep 21, 2020

We realize that there are a lot of questions about ordering evaporative cooling media and we hope this helps answer some of those questions. The biggest issue we see with ordering media is measurement. Sometimes we get folks who order media and don't know how to measure the unit, never fear we are here to help answer any questions you may have! Not measuring correctly can lead to delay in your production. You may over order media, costing you more or you may under order media, leaving you waiting for the fillers to be delivered. We want to help you understand the tricks of measuring and ordering your media.

How to Measure Media

When measuring media it is important to remember the way media is generally measured. Typically it is measured Depth X Width X Height, in the example photo above you will see a piece that measure 12 inches Deep X 12 inches Wide X 60 inches High. That covers one piece but what about a whole unit? Below you will find an example of how to measure a whole

unit.

Distribution Pad

is priced in the following increments and is priced per square foot: Thickness (T): 2” (3” special order) Depth (D): 4, 6, 8, 12, 18, 24” Length (L): 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 48, 60, 72” Lengths exceeding 72” are made of multiple pieces.

Example:

This example unit is measured as:

Media depth (D) = 12”

Media width (W) = 54” Media height (H) = 44”

Sizing:

Media depth (D) = 12”: is a standard dimension

Media width (W) = 54” (next standard increment is 60”)

The unit width will be made up of 4 pieces of 12” wide plus 1 piece of 12” wide cut to 6” wide.

Unit media height (H) = 44” (next standard increment 48”) All media is cut to the specified height of 44” at no additional charge.

Calculating Quantity for Pricing:

Media cubic feet = 12” d x 60” w x 48” h = 20 cu.ft. 1728 Distribution Pad Square feet = 12”d x 60”L = 5 sq.ft. 144 (Note the 60”L piece of dist. Pad is cut to 54”L)

Media Pricing

Evaporative Media is priced in the following increments and is priced per cubic foot:

Depth (D): 4, 6, 8, 12, 18, 24”

Width (W): 12”

Height (H): 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 48, 60, 72”

Heights exceeding 72” are made of stacked media pieces. ( Ex: 102” height = 1 piece 72” + 1 piece 30”)

Note that sizing and pricing is handled the same for all materials of media. Some materials do cost a little extra. The two main materials of media are cellulose paper media and fiberglass media.

What comes next?

Once you receive your media you can then install it into your equipment. It is very important to install the media properly so that it will last longer and perform properly. To understand more about media install check out this link to a blog about media install https://www.haveacoolday.com/post/proper-media-placement

Remember when installing your newly ordered media that the 45 degree angle points into the airflow. Also, keep an eye out for the indicators labeled on the media from the manufactures to know which way the media needs to be placed to get optimum performance.
