Even more than cooling we love caring and love the opportunity to help a great cause. We cannot let another minute go by with saying a big thank you! This summer we decided to create a team and help raise money for The Alzheimer’s Association. Last year our CEO and founder, Karl Egbert, was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's Disease. It has been extremely hard on his family and on our work family. We wanted to do something to help in any small way we could, so we walked!
This past Saturday many from our team raised money and participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer's here in Denver, Colorado. It was a perfect day with perfect weather and wonderful memories made. So many wonderful caring people came to support the fight to end this awful disease. We had so much fun at the event as a group. As we lined up for the opening ceremony our hearts were full of hope as flowers were raised to honor those lost from the disease, those currently fighting, those taking care of loved ones, and those who support the fight, as well as a flower raised in honor of the first to be cured.
In an effort to share awareness we would like to share a couple facts we have learned about Alzheimer’s Disease (all of which can be found by visiting the Alzheimer’s Association website all.org):
*Alzheimer's is the most common cause of dementia, a general term for memory loss and other cognitive abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life. Alzheimer's disease accounts for 60-80% of dementia cases.
*More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s Disease
*Alzheimer’s kills more people than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined.
*Over 11 million Americans provide unpaid care for people with Alzheimer’s or other dementias.
For more information please visit the Alzheimer’s Association to learn more and learn how you can help in the fight
Alzheimer’s has long impacted Karl and so many around the world. Karl lost both his mother, as well as his grandmother, to this horrendous disease. He has long supported the cause to find a cure and this past Saturday, with the help of so many within our community we were able to continue to cary his support.
We want to share a VERY BIG THANK YOU to all who gave to our team and joined us in the walk on Saturday. It was such a wonderful experience and we hope to see you all again next year. If you would like to keep up with our Alzheimer’s outreach and check in for donation opportunities in Karl's name and follow more of Karl's journey you can visit our "Man Behind ATEC" page on our website.
Thank you for reading and as always have a cool day!
